Crusade in Europe, based on President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s best-selling memoir of the same name, was the first extensive documentary series produced for television and originally aired on ABC. Featuring rare footage from the U.S Army, Navy and Coast Guard, in addition to footage from the British War Office and Ministry of Information, the series paints the complete picture of World War II’s European campaign in Eisenhower’s own words. Crusade in Europe won both a Peabody award and the 1949 Emmy for Best Public Service, Cultural or Educational Program.
Crusade in the Pacific, produced as a follow-up to the award-winning Crusade in Europe, recounts all of the land, sea and air battles fought for the Pacific. Footage from the U.S. Navy, Army, Air Force and Marines is combined with film from the Japanese government to tell the story of sacrifice and strategy that forever changed both warfare and the world.
Luken’s Vice President of Programming Matthew Golden said, “The addition of these award-winning classic documentaries to our library further reinforces Retro TV’s commitment to bringing our viewers The Best in Classic Television. We’re honored to reintroduce these television events to the American public as we remember the sacrifices of the Greatest Generation 70 years after the end of World War II.”
Crusade in Europe and Crusade in the Pacific will join the Retro TV lineup later this year, along with other recently announced programs The Jerry Lewis Show, The Barbara Stanwyck Show and Mister Peepers.
With an assortment of vintage comedies like The Lucy Show and The Joey Bishop Show as well as classic dramas including Route 66, Bonanza and One Step Beyond, Retro TV offers The Best in Classic Television. Retro TV’s newest acquisitions, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Doctor Who and The Doctors launched in 2014 to overwhelming response.
